Sometimes we have people ask us questions about how to get started on the social media marketing basics. Here are some websites we recommend when you’re getting into social media marketing:
A great resource list to start with.
Ryan Scott wrote an article on HubSpot in 2015, entitled “How to Learn Social Media Marketing: 41 Resources for Beginners.” Even though it’s over two years old – which sometimes seems like a decade in the social media marketing world – it’s still highly relevant for those who are getting started on social media marketing basics.

A great organization to join.
When you go through the various resources listed, there is one that we strongly recommend. It’s Social Media Examiner. This organization provides outstanding resources and ideas for a wide range of skill sets. They also offer an excellent conference every year in San Diego. This is where we started with social media marketing.

You'll find within Social Media Examiner a lot of great resources. The best resource within Social Media Examiner is the community. The SME community is outstanding. For every question or concern you may have about social media marketing, you can find someone who can address it with kindness and professionalism. In fact, you may find that some of the big-name experts will help you out – for free. In other circles, you would have to pay thousands of dollars for that level of help. That's worth your time right there to look into signing up for a Social Media Examiner membership.
A great event to attend.
We also recommend that you attend the Social Media Marketing World Conference. With hundreds of sessions taught by the biggest leaders and influencers in the social media world, you will be sure to find what you need. Plus, as part of your conference fees, you can listen to all of the sessions you weren't able to attend when you get back home. Experts such as Guy Kawasaki, Pat Flynn, Joe Pulizzi, John Lee Dumas, and Michael Hyatt come to this event, not only to speak, but to attend, listen and learn – and you should, too.

These three social media marketing basics resources are great to get you moving in the right direction, or to help you gain velocity in your social media marketing efforts.
One additional point of emphasis: be a part of the social media marketing community. You will find that, as this industry continues to grow rapidly, new ideas and concepts develop daily. As a result, the community works together to find the best solutions and strategies to increase success for everyone. If you are active in the community, you will find helpful, generous people who will assist you to find what you need and to do it well. Don't be scared – get in there and participate in the discussion!
Best wishes to you . . . and be social!
